Trailer from this year's acclaimed Production
Harrow Opera is planning a fully staged production of Gianni Schicchi (Puccini) and Dido and Aeneas (Purcell) during the week 10th to 16th March 2019, to be performed at the Compass Theatre, Ickenham. The production will be in English and accompanied by piano with David Podd as MD and Janet Podd as Director.
Auditions are open, however preference for roles will be given to Harrow Opera members (who achieve a suitable standard). Where audition slots for specific roles are very oversubscribed, auditions may be limited to those prepared to consider another role.
During the audition applicants will also be considered as understudies for major roles, particularly those singers who are offered small roles or chorus.
It should be noted that in this production the chorus will be vitally important and on stage all the time, therefor singing chorus will be a big role.
Auditions will be held at the Harrow Arts Centre (nearest public transport Hatch End Rail Station) from 14.00 - 18.00 on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June 2018. Click here for map.
All singers should prepare the relevant excerpt(s) from the list, which should be sung in English. Any edition of Dido can be used, the translation for Schicchi will be the Ricordi edition, so it is preferable that this edition is used for audition where possible.
Auditionees may be asked to take some direction during the audition.
It is hoped that Lauretta and Rinuccio applicants will sing together so it preferred that they audition on the Saturday where possible. Those wanting to audition for Dido or Aeneas should preferably sing on the Sunday. Obviously in some cases this will not be possible.
FEES PAYABLE TO HARROW OPERA
Large Role: £150
Smaller Roles: £100
Roles will be single cast and all principals will be required to sing chorus.
All principal singers are required to sell a minimum of eight tickets, ticket not sold must be paid for. Singers of smaller role will be expected to sell 4 tickets minimum.
Rehearsals will take place at the Harrow Arts centre from mid-September 2018 (date tbc) on Thursday evenings and then also Sunday afternoons from November until the show date.
There will be a full initial production day (provisionally 4th November) with compulsory dress rehearsals, tech and Sitzprobe on the 11th, 12th and 13th of March. Please do not take the role if you are unable to commit to at least 90% of rehearsals.
Please submit all known N/As at the time of audition
