Harrow Opera is planning a fully staged production of Mozarts’s The Marriage of Figaro,  the week of  9th to 15th March 2025, to be performed at the Compass Theatre, Ickenham.

The production will be in English, based on the Schirmer translation, accompanied by piano.

Where audition slots for specific roles are very oversubscribed, auditions may be limited to those prepared to consider another role.

AUDITION FORMAT

Harrow Arts Centre (Grimsdyke Room), Uxbridge Road, Hatch End, Middlesex, HA5 4EA (Nearest public transport Hatch End Station) from 14.00 to 17.00 on Sunday 2nd June 2024 and Sunday 9th June 2024.  Click here for map.

All singers should prepare the relevant aria and ensemble extract from the list below - in English. Auditionees may not be required to sing their whole item. Auditionees may be asked to take some direction during the audition.

AUDITION PIECES

To be sung in English translation

FIGARO  Bass:  Any of his arias and Act 2 finale (signore di fuori).

SUSANNA  Soprano:  Either of her arias and sextet or trio No.7 (cosa sento with Count and Basilio).

COUNT ALMAVIVA  Baritone:  Hai gia vinta and trio No.7 or beginning of Act 2 finale (ecsi omai).

COUNTESS ALMAVIVA  Soprano:  One of the arias and Act 2 finale (esci omai) or No.20 canzonetta sul aria.

CHERUBINO  Soprano:  No.6 non so piu or No. 11 voi che sapete and No.14 aprite presto (duet with Susanna).

MARCELLINA  Soprano:  Aria and Act 2 finale (on her entrance) or sextet No.18.

BARTOLO  Bass:  No.4 la vendetta and Act 2 finale (on his entrance) or sextet No.18.

BASILIO  Tenor:  In quegl'anni in cui val poco and sextet No.18 (as Curzio) or trio No.7.

BARBARINA  Soprano:  Aria and the "farm girls" duet.

ANTONIO  Bass:  His ensemble in Act 2 finale.

DON CURZIO  Tenor:  His ensemble in sextet No.18.

 

FEES PAYABLE TO HARROW OPERA

Please note Harrow Opera is an amateur group and totally self-funding. We require performance fees to be paid to us in order that we can put on a show.

No roles will be confirmed until fees have been paid

Figaro, Susanna, The Count, The Countess: £150

Smaller Roles: £110

Chorus: £60

All principal singers are expected to sell a minimum of eight tickets.

Roles will be double cast and principals will be required to sing chorus on their off nights.

Rehearsals will take place at the Harrow Arts Centre and/or St John’s United Reform Church, Hallowell Road, Northwood on Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings from September until the show date. There may also be additional rehearsals in the last two weeks before the performances, with compulsory dress rehearsals, tech and Sitzprobe. Please do not take the role if you are unable to commit to the majority of rehearsals.
